Roar-Worthy Beer Brand Insight! Branding that Goes Beyond the Brewtiful Label

This Made in India beer brand made 125 crores in just 3 years of existence

Hey Champ!

First things first - a massive shoutout and thank you for subscribing last week to Marketing Muse. You're now officially part of my gang!đź”˝ đź”˝ đź”˝

With Marketing Muse, my agenda is to dissect the world's best marketing campaigns and make you the marketing guru so you don’t require an agency. Oops! It might sound a bit contradictory, but you get why, right? (Hint: Blank)

Now that the lion’s out of the bag, let me spill the beans on why I launched MM. I know you're itching for this week's brand scoop - Simba beer!

I come across many who want to market their businesses & not spend a penny on an agency. And I thought, why not bring solutions for those people by giving them free strategy ideas for their brand?

With 2023 ending, I had a strong notion to express my ideas to the world, and writing seemed the best fit for someone my personality.

With Jan 2024 gone in a jiffy, here are 2 things I achieved this month:

  1. I've never played sports in my entire life. This month, I enrolled myself in a cricket tournament. (On the first day of practice, I didn’t exactly know what to do with the bat - stop judging me!)

  2. I laid out a roadmap and finally launched the Marketing Muse Newsletter, gaining more than 60 subscribers in just a few hours of the launch. Not bad!

Enough about me, though. Let's dive into this week's campaign analysis….

Meet Simba, the "Made in India" beer brand that welcomes you with open arms ……. depending on your age ;)

Simba, the brand name, is both exclusive and relatable, portraying the mightiest animal of the jungle, aka the mightiest of the beer clan. Simba positions itself as a quality brand, evident in their name, brand message, and products.

Their brand message, “finely crafted superior quality,” resonates across all of their touch-points:

  • Brand name: Simba

  • Mascot: Alpha & Bold Lion

  • Brand color: Unmissable Red & Black

  • Tagline

  • SKUs: Lager, Wit, Stout, Strong

  • Website: The content mirrors the same feeling - Roar with Simba!

  • Brand activation events offline: Wildest Beer Festivals

With Budweiser as the dominating brand, who would have thought a homegrown brand could carve its place with a similar palette while maintaining a strong, independent, and cool identity in just 3 years?

Simba challenges the standard, expensive-looking beer brands with its bold and attractive color scheme of red and black, from the name to the product packaging.

Here's what you can apply in your brand >

(products owners, B2C brands, FMCG, or F&B)

  • Your brand will be judged based on its first impression—the name, tagline, and how it all ties into your visual brand identity—logo, colors, style, packaging, vibe.

  • One-time branding isn't enough. An alpha image is built when your brand consistently stands by its core beliefs—whether you're launching a new product, flavor, B2B network, exhibiting, or representing your brand at networking events.

  • Marketing isn't just about social media posts; it's also about hosting, sponsoring, and exhibiting in events that align with brand's core beliefs.

  • Brand building is a lifelong process where your brand shows up for itself. 3-6 month activity won’t give you results.

  • Brand strategy involves connecting with the audience on every touchpoint of the brand - product, collateral, human representative, digital, website, or shop/office. Get working on all fronts now!

Next time you hit a pub, make sure to order yourself a Simba! 🍻
